Four injured in disturbance in Malé

Police have arrested two men and two underage boys in connection to a fight that occurred in Malé on Friday.

A Police Media Official said that they have been unable to find out the reason for the fight but that no one was seriously injured in the incident which occurred near the Star Cinema around 2:00am.

The fight had been between a group of men who were near the Star Cinema and a group of men who had passed by on motorcycles. Not long after the fight had started, two Police officers had arrived at the scene but had been unable to keep the two groups separate. When one of the officers had raised his baton, one of the group members had snatched it away from him.

Around 10 minutes after the fight had started, the group that had arrived on motorcycles tried to flee towards the Social Centre, located across the road from Star Cinema. One of the motorcycle group members was, meanwhile, being beaten brutally by a member from the other group. The assailant also fled into a nearby house when two Police vehicles arrived at the scene, although a Police officer was right next to him when he did so. The man who was on the receiving end of the beating also fled the scene when Police arrived.

According to Haveeru sources, the man who was being beaten had suffered two cuts to his head.
