Five men injured in Hulhumalé car accident

Filed under: Male' News — Beautiful Maldives @ 12:27 pm

A car driven by a man believed to have fallen asleep at the wheel crashed into a tree while speeding down a road in Hulhumalé, injuring the driver and five passengers inside the car.

A Police Media Official said on Tuesday that the accident had occurred around 12:00am on Monday and that the passengers had admitted that the man who had been driving the car had been roused from sleep right before they all got into the car. He said that was the main reason they believed the driver had probably fallen asleep at the wheel during the drive.

According to the Police website, the car had been speeding down Huvandhu Magu in Hulhumalé when the driver had lost control, veering onto the pavement before flipping over and hitting a tree.

Everyone inside the car had suffered minor scrapes and bruises in the accident and required treatment at the Hulhumalé hospital. The Senior Administrative Officer of the Hospital, Fazeela Mohamed, said that five of the six people who had been treated at the Hospital had now been released. She said that those in the front seats of the car had been wounded by shattered glass and those at the back had suffered some minor injuries.

Fazeela said that the only accident victim they hadn’t released from the Hospital yet was a woman who had been in the back seat of the car. Despite some minor injuries to her lips she was being kept under observation because she was complaining of chest pains, Fazeela said.
